What is Hypnotherapy & Hypnosis?
The act of Hypnosis has been around for over 4000 years in both Ancient Greece and Egypt, where people would visit sleep temples to be healed through prayer and incantations, in other words What Is suggestions. Hypnosis is defined more usually nowadays as a being in a “condition in which people can respond to questions and are susceptible to suggestions via a hypnotist”.
Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis in treating a person with a physical or psychological condition or problem that may not be able to be treated conventionally. We are all capable of entering into a hypnotic state at some time or another, think about how many times you have been caught out day-dreaming or being so absorbed in a thought, book or film that you have forgotten about everything else going on around you. You won’t be asleep but you may feel like you are half way in and out of it!
Does Hypnotherapy work?
Hypnosis is usually induced by asking the client to focus or relax and as therapists; we cannot make someone do this against their will. You are fully in control when under hypnosis and don’t have to take on the therapist’s suggestions if you don’t want to. If necessary, you can bring yourself out of the hypnotic state. Hypnosis doesn’t work if you don’t want to be hypnotised. Behavior patterns and thought processes that have been “stuck”, out of reach in your subconscious mind for a long time can be altered.

How does Hypnotherapy work?
In a Hypnotherapy session with me, you will first of all discuss any changes since we spoke at your free consultation. Then, as you relax in my reclining leather therapy chair, I will use different techniques to make you feel as relaxed and day-dreamy as possible. You may be able to hear everything I say or you may just choose to hear the odd word here and there.
Once you are suitably relaxed, I will begin talking to you, making positive suggestions to the subconscious part of your mind that will enable you to make changes to your behaviours and thoughts. Your subconscious mind is open to making these changes and as I will be using your own words to help make changes, it will be able to identify with what is being said and take the new suggestions on board.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
As you will be in the capable hands of a fully qualified and experienced hypnotherapist, you have no reason to think that it won’t be safe. You are in complete control of this experience and can bring yourself out of hypnosis at any time you choose to, should you want to or need to.
You are in control of your own mind and if you don’t want to visit a past event or share an experience, you just won’t do it! You can bring yourself back to full conscious awareness at any time that you choose to (however, this has happened very rarely as most clients are perfectly happy being in a deeply relaxed state!)
Are you suitably qualified?
I am fully registered with the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR), and the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC) which are the UKs largest and most prominent organisations within the field of hypnotherapy. I also am also registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) whose purpose is to enhance public safety, by giving the general public access to list of complementary therapy practitioners that have been assessed as meeting national standards of safe and competent practice.
I have a Diploma in Professional Hypnotherapy, a Diploma in Neuro-linguistic Programming, Certification as a Weight Management Specialist, Certification as a Smoking Cessation Specialist, and a Practitioner’s Certificate in Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).
I was also a Primary teacher for 20 years (B.Ed. hons), so I am very comfortable working with children, teenagers or with child related issues. I am also qualified to use hypnotherapy with children or young adults as long as there is consent from a suitable adult.
Can you use Hypnotherapy to help me quit smoking?
Absolutely! If you want to stop smoking 100%, more than anything else in the world, you are at the end of your tether with this rotten habit and the commitment is there to give it a go properly, then there is no reason why it won’t work for you!
Can you use Hypnosis to lose weight?
Once again, if you are determined to lose some weight without depriving yourself of food on so called faddy “diets” then yes, hypnotherapy will help you lose weight. By using hypnosis to lose weight, you will be making positive changes to improve eating habits, changing thoughts and feelings about food and even feeling motivated to exercise or join a gym.
